Hope you can get a rest today Lorna. Heartache is exhausting and you are managing so much all at once. I'm glad your Dad saw the photos of your daughter in her dress. You'll remember that on the day and it will make your Dad seem closer. Thinking of you xx Ailsa

Hi Lorna Hope your journey up to the airport and back to the hospital today was a safe one. Been thinking about your visit this afternoon to spend time with your Dad and hoping each of you gained some comfort from being together. Such a difficult time Lorna but you are strong and you will come through this. Thinking of you Lyn x

Hi Guys! Feel a bit cheeky posting on Lorna’s thread so I hope she doesn’t mind. I know how much Lorna is in everyone’s thoughts at this difficult time and I’m sure you’re wondering how things are. As she has not posted for a few days I just thought I would add something. I have spoken with Lorna several times over the last week or so, but not today. Her Dad’s medication was stopped earlier in the week as it was felt that it wasn’t helping him. I understand the hospital wanted to keep him in but he wanted to be in his own home. He came out by ambulance on Monday. I spoke to Lorna yesterday and her Dad is in a very bad way, barely able to eat even small teaspoons of food (although he managed a Guinness which brought a smile to his face and Lorna’s! ). She has been able to arrange morning and evening care but is staying with him herself to look after him. Her eldest daughter has come over from Norway so she will be a good help and comfort to Lorna. As I say I haven’t spoken with Lorna today so perhaps there is a change in the situation. I know you will all be thinking of her and wishing her comfort and will pass on your good wishes. I will let you know if I hear from her. Lyn x

Hi all I have spoken with Lorna this evening and she is, not surprisingly, very down. Her dear Dad is getting weaker by the day but every now and again he seems to rally round a little. He tires very quickly and is now only managing sips of water, anything else is causing nausea despite the anti-emetic treatment. They have nurses popping in all the time throughout the day and the doctor is on standby should he be needed. Lorna feels his life is ebbing away and watching her Dad suffer this way is causing distress not only for herself but also for her three daughters. I have passed on your sentiments to Lorna and she is very appreciative of all your kind thoughts. Lorna and Siobhan have each other for comfort but your thoughts, prayers and good wishes mean a lot to her. Lyn x

Hi Everyone,
I really cannot thank you enough for the loving kindness you have all shown to me and my family. Sadly my dad died this morning peacefully in his sleep. It is a blessing as he was so weak and it really was not fair on him suffering the way he was. I am so pleased I managed to take him out 3 weeks ago as it was the final trip we had together. It has been 3 weeks and 2 days since we got the news of dad's illness. It has been a difficult week as my dad was so ill and needed round the clock care. We have had so little sleep as you sleep with one ear open. I checked on him during the night as I always did and he was fine, I had kissed his head earlier and told him to let go: he was hanging on as he did not want to leave me. I told him it was time to let go as I would make him proud and deal with everything, he had suffered enough and I wanted him to rest now. He died early this morning, I found him when I went to check on him.
I am in the middle of arranging a send off typically in the style of my dad. He will be looking over us with a smile. I really cant believe it's almost all over. I actually feel numb tonight, I have cried so much this last week, I think dad may be giving me more strength to get me through this. My brothers raised their glasses and made a toast to me tonight for the strength I and my daughter have shown to dad. This is the final journey I will help dad make and I plan for it to be so special.
Thank you all once again.
Love Lorna xxx
